How much difference in handling between a Roadie and the Waterford SR-14?

I'm more interested in the classic stage race geometry than criterium racing, but the Waterford is quite a bit more money than a Gunnar.

So, I could learn to live with the Roadie, but I would probably prefer the SR-14 in the long run.

and most Gunnars are not. Don't think the tubes would be much different, so geo would be a determining factor.

The stock Roadie will always be a bit faster steering than the Waterford Stage Race platform. The Roadie, though, is a bit slower steering than the Waterford Road Race (crit) geometry. You can slow down the steering on the Roadie by going to a shorter rake fork. This isn't for everyone, is it increases the risk of toe overlap problems and requires purchasing a more expensive fork such as from Wound-up or Enve (Edge) composites.

I'm mainly concerned because I am not yet a confident descender, so the slightly slower handling appeals to me in that regard. I was riding a '06 Trek 2100, which has the same head tube angle, but longer chain stays (by 5mm) (not sure about the seat tube angle). At 33-35 mph I decide that's fast enough.

I mostly do rides of 20-50 miles, with some fast group rides thrown in there. Would like to try a crit or road race in the future, but those are not my focus.

I don't think I want the Sport model.

Unfortunately, our local shop doesn't have any Roadies built up, I'll have to check to see if any local riders have one in my size I can demo.
