Good Afternoon,
After ten year hiatus from cycling I have started riding my Crosshairs #B01102. The ride is fantastic with the exception of the shuttering of the Fork under hard braking. The Brakes are Tektro 720 cantis which I switched out to provide more tire clearnace. Can someone help me out with this issue?

Thanks,
Steve

could be loose headset.

have you tried standing over the bike with both feet on the ground? then applying the front brake and rocking the bike back and forth? if you do this and see/feel play in the headset, then...it's the headset.

take two aspirin and get back to me in the morning.

Indeed loose headsets as well as bearings can contribute to fork chatter. Chatter is an issue on many cross bikes because of the relatively small, hard tires and great stopping power of today's brakes. The bigger the rider and the tougher the terrain, the more likely chatter will occur.

If it's still there after addressing basic mechanical issues, here are some other measures to consider:

> Look at your brake toe-in.
> Consider going to Kool-stop brake pads, which tend to brake more smoothly,
> V-brakes are known to eliminate the problem once and for all.

Thanks,

Richard

Mr. Zinn has a pretty good explanation to why shudder happens.

Leonard's article includes some excellent concepts. I was going to suggest going to the FAQ section of the Gunnar site, only to find nothing on it. I've since added a troubleshooting section and included articles we've posted to the Waterford site. It will give you a number of good suggestions:

Good luck!
