This forum has been up for a few days now... and yet Mr. Schwinn has not posted. Why do you think this is?

I don't know, man... I hear that "Richard Schwinn" is just a job title over at Waterford that the guys at the shop take turns having. I think Diane Behrens was "Mr. Schwinn" last week... next week it should be Marc Muller. It's a great moral booster.

As I understand it, the real Mr. Schwinn went on tour with a group of old-timey musicians about 7 years ago and has not been seen since. Legend has it that if you stand in his old office and listen very carefully, you can still hear his fiddle faintly whining.

All are interesting theories. Perhaps Mr. Schwinn would like to comment himself?

Met him at LBS in DC earlier this year - great guy who lives to produce great bike frames.

Waterford Bikes also figured in a Washington Post report last week - a feature on American jobs going down the tubes as more goods are bought from "Out East". The article focussed on the downfall of Schwinn as typical of where the jobs had been lost, but mentioned Richard's successful dealings in keeping the Waterford plant operating - albeit much smaller than the "family" bike factories. There was a photo of Richard, but the tasteless reporter didn't include "Gunnar"

Regards

Dereck

I used to work with Dereck and took Richard out for a short ride. Not only is he real, but he has a wicked sence of humor. Although he is not much for running threw red lights in traffic. The first time I called to order a bike for our shop he answered and I almost fell out. "Richard Schwinn on the phone!!!" I still am amazed at what a nice guy he is. Let Dave be a stand in till Richard has time to post.
