I've run a reynolds ouzo pro and a variety of steel forks, waterford, dimension, and kelly. The carbon (reynolds) did ride the smoothest, and was the lightest. The steel forks gave me peace of mind when riding WV dirt roads, and have better style, in my opinion. Also, the steel fork has a bit more mud clearance, and can fit a bit larger tire than the reynolds fork. Either way seems like a good choice to me, though I'm currently running steel forks on all my bikes (waterford road, gunnar cross, gunnar single speed).
