I love the new adjustable dropouts (for example - I'm wondering if anybody has had a rockhound custom made with these, or if it's possible?

Hello ergnut,

We have done a number of special dropout requests. Everything from Rohloff to Paul's. We can do it, but it does become a custom.

I think the reality is, the Henry James dropouts are VERY "inexpensive" to braze on. They are simple plug-type dropouts and very little skill or cleanup or time is needed to use these dropouts. It's a pity because I think that in some ways the Henry James dropouts are rather ugly, compared to most of the other forged dropout made in history.

Too bad Gunnar doesn't offer a dropout with adjusters. Adjustable dropouts are not too expensive (example : $15 from richard sachs for a set, 5x or more) and can be used to change the wheelbase or adjust for unusual derailleurs or mild chainline problems. What is the upcharge for custom dropouts? I sure hope it's not $125.

It looks like the upcharge is about $250 for custom dropouts - pretty steep. I'm not sure it's worth it.

Waterford has not spec'd Henry James dropouts for nearly 4 years. Gunnars have never used Henry James dropouts. We used our own and Ritchey when we first started then switched to the Waterford design to replace the Ritcheys , again nearly 4 years ago.

For Gunnar Rockhounds & Ruffians we make our own laser cut design.

We happily accomodate custom dropout requests, but to do them correctly we need to re-CAD design the rear ends of the frames to adjust for their individual designs. Unfortunately, they rarely "just plug in". That would be too easy.
